Melissa Wright is the owner and director of Central Point Pilates and former owner MG Pilates. Melissa began her Pilates journey at the age of 15 while studying full time ballet in Sydney. The realization that she wanted to become a Pilates instructor became apparent while living in London as a dancer where she was attending regular Pilates sessions at Pineapple Dance Studios. The changes that Pilates brought to her body as a dancer while she was nursing a lower back injury was something that she had never experienced before with other treatments. Pilates just “made sense” in her body and she couldn’t wait to share this wonderful technique with others.
Once back in Sydney in 1999 she embarked on an apprenticeship as a Pilates instructor and she has never looked back. Working with various instructors, studios and Physios throughout Sydney she went from strength to strength eventually going solo at Bondi Platinum Fitness First. After successfully establishing a solid clientele she decided to open her own small studio in Erskineville working with a wide range of people encompassing general conditioning beginners to advanced, dancers, athletes, mums and dads and corporate clients.
After three years the studio grew to be very popular and expansion was eminent and a move down the road to Henderson Rd, Alexandria did just that. From here she was then able to offer group mat classes of various kinds including mums and bubs, pre-natal and general classes from beginner to advanced. This is where the One Month Challenge was born and continues to run 3 times a year with huge success with weight loss and lifestyle changes for her clients.
In 2011 Melissa completed her Diploma re-qualifying as a Polestar Pilates instructor, a worldwide provider of teacher training. This consolidated everything she had learnt and added to her library of knowledge. Upon completion of her exam she was asked to become a mentor for Polestar Pilates students and then further promoted to assistant educator. MG Pilates has many students coming through the doors to be mentored by herself and other staff members assisting them on their journey to becoming instructors.
In 2013 Melissa was the host at her first luxury Pilates retreat at Bells at Killcare and is expanding across Australia and overseas at other luxury locations.
In October 2014 Melissa sold her thriving studio that had seven highly qualified instructors allowing her to bring her style of Pilates to the Central Coast and care for her two daughters and ever supportive husband.
Melissa continues to educate herself and do her own Pilates self mastery and with other top Pilates instructors on the coast and in Sydney and continues to teach Polestar students. She is passionate about living a healthy balanced lifestyle and has seen how Pilates and healthy eating can influence positive changes in the body and psychologically.
Melissa loves that Pilates can be adapted to suit every-body. It brings her great joy and satisfaction to see people change old movement habits and improve their lifestyles. She believes that movement can assist in releasing old and tired thought patterns which ultimately creates agility and energy throughout the body . You are what you think you are!
